A short Melbourne getaway

During the time I spent in Australia, I realized that there is a kind of informal rivalry between Melbourne and Sydney regarding which is better. Even though I opted Sydney, I must admit that Melbourne also has magnificent landmarks that I need to share with you.

Twelve Apostles

Even though it is a little peculiar I can’t avoid starting with a must-site day trip from Melbourne as this place is totally unique. I am talking about the Twelve Apostles, huge limestone stacks on Australia’s famous Great Ocean Road with a breathtaking view. If you avoid the Great Ocean Road, you can reach the spot by bus or car in less than three hours, otherwise you will need around four hours. I did one day trip from Melbourne with a duration of around 12 hours since we also visited the Great Ocean Road, watched Koalas and Kangaroos in our route, stopped at Apollo Bay Beach and the Memorial Arch at Eastern View. Nevertheless, if you can’t stand staying at a bus for a long time or get carsick you better only visit the Twelve Apostles and Loch Ard Gorge, otherwise the trip could be very tiresome. Believe me the view of the Twelve Apostles will totally compensate you!

Queen Victoria Market

A place that you can’t miss during your visit. Open until 3pm every day except for Mondays and Wednesdays is a great spot where you can find every type of souvenir, fresh products and stalls with street food. An absolutely must visit.

Queen's Food Hall

Near the Queen Victoria Market is located this indoor food hall, full of local products and a variety of delicious pastries that you must try.

Chinatown

One of the biggest Chinatowns that I have ever seen, full of every type of Asian restaurants with incredible food options that you don’t know which to try first. I have to say that I have seen more Asian people in Melbourne than in Hong Kong that enhanced a genuine Asian experience.

Under the Clocks/Flinders Street Railway Station

The most iconic Melbourne’s landmark is the city’s railway station, which indeed is totally impressive as the area by the river behind it.

Federation Square

Almost opposite the Railway station stands the stunning federation square that looks like an art gallery. A great place to spend your time or have a drink at the square’s cute cafes.

Finders Walk/SouthBank Promenade

There is no better way to enjoy your time in the city than walking by its river, admiring the view and spending time in this vivid area of the city full of restaurants, bars and cafes.

St Paul's Cathedral, Melbourne

A stunning example of gothic architecture in the center of the town, but still calm and solemn.

Hosier Ln

This little street is full of wall art, colorful graffiti and a bohemian and artistic sense that also deserves a short visit.
