One of the most popular day trips from Taipei is the one that combines the unique Yehliu Geopark, the traditional mountainous Jiufen Village and the magic Shifen Waterfalls.
To avoid the inconvenience of mixing and matching the public transport itineraries, it is easier to book a day trip via Klook or any similar platform that suits you better. ( I chose this one https://www.klook.com/activity/76306-yehliu-jiufen-shifen-golden-waterfall-day-tour/?spm=SearchResult.SearchResult_LIST&clickId=967650547a)
Yehliu Geopark
Apart from its strange rock formations (the most popular one is the one that resembles a woman’s face- some claim that it looks like Queen Elizabeth), the whole park is unique due to its location. Situated at the edge of the sea, its whole structure is imposing and cannot be missed.
Shifen Waterfall
Hidden among narrow paths and rich vegetation but easy to reach is the popular Shifen Waterfall. The waterfall will enchant you with its beauty and glory.
Siguangtan Suspension Bridge
Siguangtan Suspension Bridge is another stop that you may do returning from the Waterfalls to take some more beautiful pictures of this magic place.
Shifen Old street
At walking distance from the waterfalls and the bridge is the Shifen Old Street, where you have the opportunity to admire its traditional path and If you are lucky enough you will watch the train passing very close by your side. Hundreds of wish-filled lanterns rise into the sky from the old street. You can join in by writing your own wishes and releasing a lantern of your own.
Jiufen Village
This picturesque, mountainous, traditional village from the Qing Dynasty, is an excellent example of Chinese typical architecture. Stroll around its narrow little streets full of traditional products, souvenirs and excellent street food. Don’t omit having a flavorful tea (a tea ritual is also available to watch) ,trying the little sweets that accompany it and admiring the sea view from the popular A-Mei Teahouse (https://maps.app.goo.gl/T3TnLnwX55sWPksX8). You may also try the yummiest, sweet soup at Grandma Lai's Sweet Taro Balls (https://maps.app.goo.gl/Y17koB5LYHyKkJaq8), before going back to Taipei.
